The Bishkek Central Mosque, the one of largest in Central Asia, is located on the Great Silk Road, on Zhibek Zholu Avenue. Its area is more than 4,000 square meters, the height is 38 meters, and its 70-meter-tall minarets are stretching up to the sky. Construction of the mosque lasted six years and cost $ 25 million, it was opened in 2018. The building is completely lined with marble; it was specially brought from Turkey. The mosque itself is a copy of the famous Kocatepe Mosque in Ankara. In Soviet times, the Issyk-Kul cinema was on the site of the mosque, and before that - a Christian cemetery.
