Ancient and mysterious city of Koshoi-Korgon stood on the Great silk road. It was built in the 7th century and named after the hero Koshoi, who was an ally and uncle of the great hero Manas.
The ancient structure has clay walls, their height at one time reached 10 meters. It is surrounded by a large moat.
According to legend, Koshoi built the military fortification to protect Kyrgyz lands from Chinese raids. Its convenient location provided an excellent opportunity to observe everything that was happening around and notice the approaching enemy in time. But the fortress was destroyed by constant raids of enemies.
The army of Amir Timur restored Koshoi a hundred years later. The fortress served as a transit point in Tamerlane's campaigns to the east. Koshoi-Korgon had long been the stronghold of the rulers of numerous Turkic tribes.
A museum of historical finds and valuable artifacts was opened near Koshoi-Korgon in 2004. These are historical finds from the settlement itself and exhibits found in Naryn region, telling about the life of the Kyrgyz people: tools, household items, military equipment.
